3 Ways to Become Best Buddies with your YouTube Audience

Are you friends with your YouTube audience? Knowing your market is a great way to help increase views, so you can give them more of what they want. Here are three things to keep tabs on:

1. What kind of content is interesting to your audience? Look for the length of time each video gets watched. Viewer retention is an important factor for Google search rankings now. Compare videos of both similar and different length.

2. How do people find your videos? See which sites and other sources people are coming from to watch your videos. This can give you an idea of what kind of people and companies to develop a relationship with, since they have been driving traffic to your YouTube page. Take a step further and analyze which categories those external sources are in, and connect with other websites via Twitter to expand your reach.

3. What makes people click the ‘subscribe’ button? Developing a loyal following is crucial to growing a subscriber base. Spend some good time in your subscription report to consider things like the dates where you can detect an increase or decrease in followers. Did you do anything different for those video uploads? Start to write down key content trends that drive up your numbers. You might be surprised to zoom in on some key success trends you can repeat in the future.

Taking a step back and looking at what worked and what didn’t work can help you develop your video strategy. It’s a good idea to look at your YouTube Analytics at least every four months. Of course, the more you check that Analytics tab under Video Manager, the better.
